THE NEW ECO TEAMS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN!!! SADLY THE ENERGY BUSTERS ARE NO MORE. INSTEAD THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY A BRAND NEW TEAM THAT PUPILS IN OUR SCHOOL WERE SUPPOSED TO NAME BUT NOBODY COULD THINK OF A GOOD NAME!!! SO MRS. MACPHERSON AND MISS NICHOL SPENT AGES THINKING UP A NAME… WELCOME THE THREE R WARRIORS!!!

 THE OTHER TEAMS ARE THE LEAN MEAN LITTER FIGHTING MACHINE AND THE GARDEN CREW. THIS YEAR THE TEACHERS DECIDED TO HAVE ECO PREFECTS AS HELPERS/DEPUT BOSSES! FOR THEIR TEAM. THE ECO PREFECT FOR THE THREE R WARRIORS IS KIERAN. FOR THE LEAN MEAN LITTER FIGHTING MACHINE IS SARAH. AND FOR THE GARDEN CREW IS STUART. EVERYBODY HAD TO SIGN A CONTRACT TO SAY THEY WILL STAY IN THEIR TEAMS FOR THE WHOLE YEAR AND NOT WANT TO QUIT.

Monday 24^th March was a big day for everyone at Easter Carmuirs Primary.  We finally were awarded our green flag for being a fantastic eco school!  Everyone in the eco teams and the whole school has been working very hard for a long time to prepare for this day and thankfully all our hard work paid off!  We were visited by two assessors who were taken on a tour of our school by members of the eco team.  We told them and showed them all the great things we do in our school to help our environment.  We even put on an assembly for them which they really enjoyed.  We are all looking forward to receiving our flag and will need to think carefully about where we can put it to show everyone how fantastic we are!  Well done and congratulations to everyone!

P6 had fun planting runner beans we wrote instructions on how to plant them and how to look after them. We had to choose what we wanted to change, Choosing either more or less water, heat, soil, or sun that the runner bean got.

An account of how P1/2 made pencil pots from empty gravy granule tubs, written by Jordan B.

• First we got a tub, glue, paint, a brush and pictures.
• Then we glued the pictures on the tub.
• Next we painted all over the tub with glue.
• Then we left the tubs to dry.
• Lastly we put the pencils in the tubs.

We did this as part of our eco focus – we re-used/recycled gravy granule tubs and comics, magazines and stickers for decoration.

In P6 we had a project to do about the rainforest we also had to make an insect from the rainforest that had to be no more than 20cm everyone had made an insect and we were all impressed!!!

we made dragon flies,caterpillers,spiders and much more.We all had good fun!!!

Last month primary 3 were learning about biodiversity and endangered animals and decided to sponsor a kiwi as they are at risk of extinction.  We learned that biodiversity is all the wildlife in the world around us, from wildflowers and insects to mammals and birds.  Biodiversity is very important to our world and we learned that all species have as much moral right to exist as we do.

Kiwis are found in New Zealand and although it is a bird it is more like a mammal.  It has tiny wings, but cannot fly and they are nocturnal which means they come out at night and sleep during the day.  Our kiwi is called Lag and he was born in December.  Sadly their numbers are decreasing but if people continue to sponsor them hopefully this will turn the kiwi numbers around.
